Cherries on the cake of this campaign...

Might the attack ads from the swiftboat vets create a dirty-politics backlash for the Bush campaign, or will the whole thing blow up in Kerry's face? Methinks the GOP would prefer the latter, but it smells pretty rotten from where I'm standing. John McCain, albeit the chairman of the Bush team in Arizona wasted no time in calling the commercial "dishonest and deplorable"; a move remeniscent of the way they attacked him back during the Republican primaries. The White House has declined to condemn the ad. Bob J. Perry, a wealthy TEXAN, donated at least $100,000 to the angry vets that used it to purchase $500,000 of airtime for the 60-second ad to air in the battleground states of Wisconsin, Ohio and West Virginia. The people that directed the anti-Kerry swift boat ads also ran the ads against John McCain in NY during the 2000 primary. This bullshit is going to happen whether the DNC likes it or not. John Kerry needs to steel himself for the next 89 days. STEEL!!! It really is a dream...

As disgusted as I was at his recently taking an active role in the Bush re-election campaign, I have to give McCain props for speaking out against this ad. I think in throwing his support behind Bush, he hopes to strengthen his position in the GOP - no doubt looking to another pres. run in 2008. Still, he's a dick.
