No time. There's never any time!

bodog.com for State of the Union wagers, y'all. I threw down $10.00 on Bush saying "nuclear" 6-10 times, $10.00 on Bush getting 0-15 standing ovations, and another $10.00 on Bush saying "Patriot Act" 6-9 times. Diggit. Also, forget the freakin' speech. You wont hear anything new. In fact, I'm sure copies of the speech will be floating around shortly. Tune in to The Majority Report on your local Air America affiliate, channel 167 on XM Radio, or the live stream on the internet. Here are all the details from ThinkProgress.org:

Friday Fluff...FOR THE HOUR!!!!

From TheRandiRhodesShow.com:

This Monday at 9pm ET on Larry King Live, Randi will be part of a talkradio panel discussing Alito, Bush, etc. And yes, they will be taking your calls.

Also, if you missed Randi on C-SPAN's Q&A last month, you can download the mp3 HERE. Just so you know, The Randi Rhodes show is one of the most popular podcasts of all time at podcastdirectory.com. Just sayin'. In other news, Stephen Colbert will be hosting this year's White House Correspondent's dinner. Perhaps he can make up for Lewis Black's bomb last year.

Is that a rock of truth he's standing on?

Huffington v. Russert

I predict the gentlelady from California has the upper hand. Check THIS page out for all things Timmy from the Huffington Post. Arianna has been aces as a Russert/MTP watchdog for close to a year now. Yesterday, she posted THIS about Tim Russert:

Now comes guffaw-inducing word that Russert, Sr. is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at an "Ethics of the Media" conference hosted by Ripon College's Ethical Leadership Program. Oh. My. God. Inviting Tim Russert to keynote a conference on journalistic ethics is like having Jack Abramoff keynote a conference on lobbying reform, Jim Frey lecture on truth in advertising, or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lead High Holy Days services at Temple Beth Israel.

The folks over at NBC didn't take too kindly to her truthiness, so they brought up a 12-year-old false claim about Arianna, a private detective, and Maureen Orth, Russert's wife. The ridiculousness of the claim aside, the real issue seems to be that NBC chose to swiftboat Arianna instead of really taking a look at the issue at hand: Tim Russert and his lack of ethics. Swiftboating is American political jargon for an ad hominem attack against a public figure, coordinated by an independent or pseudo-independent group, usually resulting in a benefit to an established political force. Specifically, this form of attack is controversial, easily repeatable, and difficult to verify or disprove because it is generally based on personal feelings or recollections.
Media Matters has a pretty comprehensive Russert-watch page up as well.

Filly Filly Bo-Billy...buster

According to CNN, Senator John Kerry will call for a fillibuster of Samuel Alito sometime tonight. 41 votes are needed to sustain a filibuster. He can't do this alone, people. Call your Senators! 1-202-224-3121

Pack of Three

Sonic Youth has been my Tuesday soundtrack:
I got a Catholic block - It's around my head. I got a Catholic block - It's blood orange red I got a Catholic block - Do you like to fuck? I got a Catholic block - Guess I'm out of luck
E.J. Dionne is my Tuesday Crush-On-A-Wonk:

What Democrats should have learned is that they cannot evade the security debate. They must challenge the terms under which Rove and Bush would conduct it. Imagine, for example, directly taking on that line about Sept. 11. Does having a "post-9/11 worldview" mean allowing Bush to do absolutely anything he wants, any time he wants, without having to answer to the courts, Congress or the public? Most Americans -- including a lot of libertarian-leaning Republicans -- reject such an anti-constitutional view of presidential power. If Democrats aren't willing to take on this issue, what's the point of being an opposition party?

Senator Ben Nelson has regained his spot in my heart...my Tuesday-heart:

Nelson, who likely will come under Republican attack for his ''no'' vote, underscored in a statement that he has voted ''for almost all'' of Bush's judicial nominees. But, Nelson, who met privately with Alito last week, said Alito's ``many legal writings, judicial opinions and evasive answers both at his hearing and in our private meeting, convinced me he would tilt the scales of justice in favor of big government over the average person.

(He was the only YES vote, as of Monday...)

More later. I swear.
