Flirt Shmirt

I sent this to the people over at News Hounds and Crooks & Liars:

Please, oh please post something about tonight's Hannity and Colmes. (it was right before the Dick Morris segment) Ann called Alan a liar, refused to back up her claim (as usual) then mocked him a minute later. I'm waiting for that woman's ultimate meltdown.

I recieved great responses from both blogs less than an hour later, and the video is up at the C&L site.

What a fuckin' loooooooon.

I'm still running a fever. Everything still sucks. All I can smell is mentholatum and hair product. My chest hurts.

Punchy

Michele Malkin likes to keep it real. In her latest column, she exposes what's really behind Hollywood and the music the kids are listening to. She's so concerned, in fact, that she managed to connect the "new genre of music — 'emo' — " as a genre that exists around promting the "cutting culture." She is soooooooooo down.

Vote Jim Wallis for POPE '08!!

Despite my confirmation at the age of fifteen, I feel like I'm just barely grasping what it IS to be a Catholic in this day and age. It's difficult, coming to terms with my own faith, especially when surrounded by countless atheist and agnostic friends. It also gets confusing when the Pope comes out against certain issues that I'm very passionate about. That being said, I was almost sick to my stomach after I read a few passages from the Pope's new book, "Memory and Identity." He said that gay marriages are part of a "new ideology of evil," and equated abortions with the Holocaust. He warns that evil lurks within "liberal political systems." Can I be a Catholic if I reject the writings of John Paul II? I'd like to think so. The heart of the Catholic tradition should not be one set of rules that every person of faith must adhere to, but rather a living testament to the life of Christ. There shouldn't be spiritual narrowness that focuses on singling people out for their beliefs and partner-preference. I like the idea of the Catholic church being that of inclusive generosity and universality, NOT a sectarian institution that shuts people out.

"We DO have freedom because we are all equal before God..."

Dear Ann Coulter, Earlier on Hannity and Colmes, you asked (rather increduously, I might add)"Who was Alexis Herman?!!" I offer you this humble introduction:

The first African American to become the secretary of labor, Alexis M. Herman was born in Mobile, Alabama, on July 16, 1947. Her mother was a teacher in Mobile and her father was the first black politician elected in the South since Reconstruction. After graduating from a Catholic high school, Herman attended Xavier University in New Orleans, graduating in 1969. Herman began her career in 1969 as a social worker for Catholic Charities, developing employment training opportunities for unemployed youth. From there, she was hired by the Department of Labor. At age twenty-nine, Herman became the youngest person to hold the position of Director of the Women's Bureau, and while there, Herman pressured Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola to hire female professionals.

It was also during this time that she met future President Bill Clinton. She formed A.M. Herman & Associates in 1981, advising state and local governments on labor markets until 1989. She also later became the National Director of the Minority Women Employment Program of R-T-P, Inc., where she established programs to place minority women in white-collar and nontraditional jobs. Returning to government service in 1989, Herman joined the Democratic National Committee as chief of staff on the suggestion of longtime friend Ron Brown, and by 1992 was the CEO of the Democratic National Convention. After Clinton's election in 1992, Herman was appointed assistant to the president and director of the White House Public Liaison Office in 1993.

Today, Herman tours the country in speaking engagements, speaking of her own entrepreneurial ventures, her time in the Department of Labor, and her grandmother's advice. She chairs the Coca-Cola Company Task Force and the Toyota Advisory Board on Diversity. She sits on the board of MGM/Mirage, Inc. and is actively involved in the National Urban League and the Ron Brown Foundation. Herman and her husband, Dr. Charles Franklin, live in Virginia.

What have YOU accomplished in life, Ms. Coulter?

(fucking Geraldo Rivera doesn't count as a valid answer)

Nice one, Ms Dowd

From Maureen Dowd's op-ed today:

I'm still mystified by this story. I was rejected for a White House press pass at the start of the Bush administration, but someone with an alias, a tax evasion problem and Internet pictures where he posed like the "Barberini Faun" is credentialed to cover a White House that won a second term by mining homophobia and preaching family values?

vs. Oy.

How can Sean Hannity purport to host an honest debate between {insert name of legitimate human being here} and the Rev. Jerry Falwell? Today's lucky victim was Jim Wallis. For those of you that have yet to read Jim Wallis' God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't get It, I suggest you get your hands on a copy. The title says it all. Judge a book by its cover just this once... For some ungodly reason, I chose to listen to Hannity's radio show instead of the Ed Schultz show this afternoon. He kept plugging the "battle" he was going to have between the two Revs. I could almost hear his erection springing to life as he talked about the "shootout in the next segment." Unbalanced debate is the one thing that seems to get Hannity really hott. The Debate: Are Democrats Using Religion for Political Expediency? Obviously, this was going to be a fair and balanced exchange. The question was proposed first to Wallis, and, rather than let him give a full answer, Hannity kept interrupting him, urging him to "answer yes or no; it's a simple question." After Wallis more or less said no, Falwell got to slip this in: "I don't blame him, if they're paying him to do it." LIES LIES LIES After a few protests by Wallis, Falwell accused him of being a "liberal, socialist Democrat," and a part of "the irreligious Left." Then, he kept asking Wallis what church he went to, and whether he is a member of said church. He admonished Wallis for voting against Reagan and both Bushes in past elections. The gem of the entire exchange was when Jim Wallis finally said: "You're a liar, Jerry Falwell. There, I said it. You and Robertson don't speak for us anymore." Word. It was extremely difficult to listen to the entire thing, but in the end, I was left with that gross, I-think-I-just-puked-a-little-in-my-mouth feeling. Even grosser: Matt Drudge on Hannity and Colmes.

When I Googled "kerry, gay, ganon," I was pointed to several "missing" links: -Kerry Could Become First Gay President -- GOPUSA -Claim: Kerry Aide Used Gay Smear to Help Defeat Incumbent Senator ... -Kerry Taking Campaign Contributions From Pro-Iranian Group ***The "Gay President" article can be read in its entirety at Ariana Huffington's site.*** These links came from the Hawaii Reporter(?) and they're availabe in their entirety: -Bush Reaches Out to Press Corps -Kerry Spokesman Appears to Threaten Network Set to Air 'Stolen Honor' The bloggers over at The Daily Kos have even gone so far as to connect him (possibly) to the Plame leak. Yipes! And in other news...
In the months before the Sept. 11 attacks, federal aviation officials reviewed dozens of intelligence reports that warned about Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, some of which specifically discussed airline hijackings and suicide operations, according to a previously undisclosed report from the 9/11 commission.

The Bush administration has blocked the public release of the full, classified version of the report for more than five months, officials said, much to the frustration of former commission members who say it provides a critical understanding of the failures of the civil aviation system.

Among other things, the report says that leaders of the F.A.A. received 52 intelligence reports from their security branch that mentioned Mr. bin Laden or Al Qaeda from April to Sept. 10, 2001. That represented half of all the intelligence summaries in that time. Five of the intelligence reports specifically mentioned Al Qaeda's training or capability to conduct hijackings, the report said. Two mentioned suicide operations, although not connected to aviation, the report said.

Aviation officials amassed so much information about the growing threat posed by terrorists that they conducted classified briefings in mid-2001 for security officials at 19 of the nation's busiest airports to warn of the threat posed in particular by Mr. bin Laden, the report said.

Jane F. Garvey, the F.A.A. administrator at the time, told the commission "that she was aware of the heightened threat during the summer of 2001," the report said. But several other senior agency officials "were basically unaware of the threat," as were senior airline operations officials and veteran pilots, the report said.

It's not a circle-jerk if there's only two people involved...

...but mutual masturbation sounds so dirty. Tonight, Karl Rove speaks out on Hannity and Colmes!! It's on right now. Like most other big-time Republican guests, it's a "special," and Sean is the only person that gets to ask the questions. It's just Sean and Karl, alone in a room. He started off by showing Mr. Rove just how red the electoral map was this year. Gross. It's enough to to make Jeff Gannon pop a nut. I love Alan chiming in at the end of each segment, thanking us for tuning in to HANNITY and Colmes.

My Hero...

Keith Olbermann has once again proved that he's one of the best guys out there in cable-land. I love the fact that there isn't' a live audience, so his quips are always followed by silence. He just layed out the entire Jeff Gannon/JD Guckert fiasco. Hearts! Hearts! Hearts! I especially loved the montage of Gannon/Guckert's softballs, and the look on Scottie McClellan's face each time. First time anal? I diggit. But back to Keith Olbermann... He was on The Al Franken show today, discussing Bill O'Reilly's faux football records. H I L A R I O U S I haven't the time for a substantive post. Goodnight.

Burping Clydesdales

Q: How many Bush Administration officials does it take to change a light bulb? A: None. There is nothing wrong with the light bulb; its condition is improving every day. Any reports of its lack of incandescence are illusional spin from the liberal media. Illuminating rooms is hard work. That light bulb has served honorably, and anything you say undermines the lighting effort. Why do you hate freedom?

Work it, girl.

Americablog has a great piece up on Ken Mehlman's issues with The Gays. Apparently, he's using the RNC site as a forum for bashing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. See, Mr. Reid has been supported by the Human Rights Campaign in the past, and he voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment. What a fag-loving homo! If gay bashing is Mr. Melman's favorite sport, then he should be fair game, don't you think? Why are Senator Reid's gay-straight alliances being featured here, when Mr. Mehlman has yet to admit on the record that he just might like the pole and the hole?

Gay Bush campiagn chair to join openly gay chief financial officer at the helm of GOP When asked if he was gay last week, Mehlman hung up the phone. Deputy communications director Steve Schmidt, reached by telephone, asserted that Mehlman was not gay but refused to say so on the record.

Oh, and this party seemed kinda gay...
Checking Out the New Bush Crowd While the President was conferring with his National Security Advisors at Camp David, housemates John McCutcheon, White House liaison to the Department of Energy, Brian Montgomery, director of presidential advance, and Steve Meyers, senior policy advisor to the Dept. of Commerce, rallied the Administration troops for a morale building evening of laughter and rejuvenation at their Lake Barcroft, Virginia home. Some of the guests taking a night off from their wartime efforts to kick up their cowboy boots and party together included White House political director Ken Mehlman, and Joe Heagin, assistant to the President and deputy chief of staff for operations.

No President Left Behind

The POTUS went to Florida last week to discuss his plans for Social Security reform. Thanks to Atrios and The Daily Kos for the heads up:
THE PRESIDENT: Because the -- all which is on the table begins to address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculate, for example, is on the table; whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers, affecting those -- changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be -- or closer delivered to what has been promised. Does that make any sense to you? It's kind of muddled. Look, there's a series of things that cause the -- like, for example, benefits are calculated based upon the increase of wages, as opposed to the increase of prices. Some have suggested that we calculate -- the benefits will rise based upon inflation, as opposed to wage increases. There is a reform that would help solve the red if that were put into effect. In other words, how fast benefits grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if those -- if that growth is affected, it will help on the red. Okay, better? I'll keep working on it. (Laughter.)
Yeah, real fuckin' funny. I think it's hi-la-rious when our own President can't articulate his ridiculous plans.

gloomy sunday vs. crampy monday

The 2.5 trillion dollar budget was unveiled by the POTUS today. In order to keep his promise of cutting the deficit in half by 2009, he's cutting back (and in some cases eliminating) 150 "politically sensitive" domestic programs. According to the WaPo, "one out of every three of the targeted programs concerns education," and, as expected, Medicaid funding would be reduced dramatically. Of course, the spending plan DOES not include future costs of the Iraq/Afghanistan occupation, nor does it include the money needed to "reform" Social Security. ...and for all the war-loving assholes like Sean Hannity, Oliver North, Rush Limbaugh, and Bill O'Reilly:
Still, the administration plans to cut costly weapons programs such as an Air Force advanced fighter plane, a stealthy Navy destroyer and the next generation of nuclear submarines. Bush's missile defense program would likewise lose billions of dollars in funding in coming years.
Jesus, why does the president hate the troops so much? Other noteworthy cuts:
-It would slice law enforcement grants to states from $2.8 billion to $1.5 billion. -It would cut 48 education programs totaling $4.3 billion, including $2.2 billion for high school programs, mostly state grants for vocational education. -The budget would cut $440 million in Safe and Drug-Free School grants. -The budget would cut $500 million in education technology state grants. -The budget would cut $225 million for the Even Start literacy program -The budget would cut $280 million for Upward Bound programs for inner-city youths. -$100 million in grants for land and water conservation would be cut. -The budget proposal would cut $94 million in grants for the Healthy Communities Access Program and phase out rural health grants. -The president would terminate the Community Food and Nutrition Program. -The President would cut a migrant and seasonal farm worker training program. -The President will renew his effort to cut a $143 million program for the removal of severely distressed housing.
And, according to the New York Times:
President Bush's budget would more than double the co-payment charged to many veterans for prescription drugs and would require some to pay a new fee of $250 a year for the privilege of using government health care, administration officials said Sunday.
Happy Monday, y'all!

Penance could be required/

Mark Brown's op/ed in the Chicago Sun-Times today stinks of Daily Show cribbing. Just last night, Jon Stewart asked this of Fareed Zakaria: What if Bush, the President, ours, has been right about this all along? I feel like my worldview will not sustain itself, and I may, and again i don't know if i can physically do this...implode. I'm not buying Mr. Brown's genuine sentiments. I'm also not buying into the fact that we firmly planted the flag of freedom in Iraq. The discussion has changed, as if we came into this war just to award the Iraqi people with a free and fair election. Right.
In other news:
War vets are having to pay for their meals at the Walter Reed Med Center.
The municipal chairman of the Sussex County Republican Committee is facing charges for downloading a video fo a 5 year old getting raped.
